Shaun joined Leaf Capital’s Property division in 2012.
Shaun has a passion for property and over the years has built up vast networks and a detailed understanding of the property industry. While at Leaf Capital he successfully managed and grew the Silver Leaf Property Fund. Prior to joining Leaf Capital he worked at Old Mutual Property Investments for six years and was responsible for investment sales and acquisitions of the various funds across the regions and portfolios. His expertise ranges from fund management, property financing, development, leasing, to valuations, strategy and research.
He is also involved in strategic business initiatives on behalf of Leaf Capital including being Lead Advisor to Atlantic Leaf.
Founder & Director
Jacqui Hathorn established Leaf Capital in 2004, together with Paul Leaf-Wright. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce C.A.I.B. degree. During her years in the banking sector, Jacqui’s activities included chairing regional credit committees, due diligence on acquisitions, formation and operations of BEE alliances, international and local mergers of major business and the disposal of non-core companies.
Jacqui held various roles in BoE (subsequently Nedbank Ltd). These included managing private wealth operations, head of finance, Head of strategy, and merger integration.
While working at Leaf Capital Jacqui began in the Corporate Finance division. She then moved on to establish the Leaf Private Equity fund (now known as Infinitus). At times Jacqui has placed her focus on Leaf Capital’s property division. Currently Jacqui currently overseas the South African operations at Leaf Capital.
Head of Finance & Tax
Warren joined Leaf Capital in 2012.
Warren qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1997. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with Honours in Accountancy from the University of South Africa. Warren also completed a Master of Commerce degree in Taxation from the University of the Witwatersrand in 2007. He has 20 years of working experience of which most has been in the Financial Services Industry with significant experience in Investment Banking as well as Fund Management and Administration. His roles have included Chief Operating Officer of RMB’s Investment Banking Division, Group Financial Director at Oryx Investment Management and Equinox and other senior positions.
Warren heads up the Finance Division at Leaf Capital and his responsibilities include Finance, Tax, Compliance and Operations.
Finance & Support
Lulu joined Leaf Capital in 2016.
Lulu holds a B.Compt CA (SA) and completed her articles with Deloittes. LuLu joined Leaf’s Finance and Support team in September 2017. All Lulu’s previous work experience has been in the banking sector working for locally based banks. LuLu has held various Finance positions with her previous role as CFO of a locally based foreign bank.
Her current role includes the supervision of the Finance and Support Team, liaising with auditors and banks and ensuring that the accounting, tax and compliance reporting is completed for Leaf Capital and its entities both to senior management and investors.
Thomas van Vlaanderen
Head of Property
Tom joined Leaf Capital in March 2014 as Financial Director of the Leaf Property Fund. Tom played a key role in the R4bn sale of property assets to Redefine Properties Limited and has now assumed overall responsibility for Leaf’s South African property interests, which also includes Silver Leaf Property Fund Limited.
He is a Chartered Accountant having gained his qualification through KPMG (Cape Town) in 2002. Prior to joining Leaf Capital, Tom spent 10 years in the UK working largely in the Financial Services Industry. He has extensive financial and business development experience from his previous roles at Barclays, Aviva and Genworth Financial.
Founder & Chairman
Paul Leaf-Wright Paul established Leaf Capital in 2004, together with Jacqui Hathorn.
Paul completed his articles and qualified as a Chartered Accountant at Deloitte and Touche in 1986. He subsequently held various roles in NBS Bank and BoE (subsequently Nedbank Ltd) which included financial and strategy director, head of treasury, director of property and asset finance, and head of wealth management.
Paul has also served on the boards of many listed companies. During his years in the banking sector his roles included running the bank’s private equity division, co-ordinating mergers and acquisitions of both the bank and third party deals, establishment of BEE companies and funding of a wide range of projects
Having established Leaf Capital, Paul remains a consultant to the Leaf Capital business units and serves as chairman of the boards of the companies making up the Leaf group. His primary role is that of CEO of Atlantic Leaf, the Mauritian based property company.
Lauren joined Leaf Capital’s Corporate Finance Division in 2012.
Lauren has 10 years of direct experience in capital raising and corporate advisory services. Her clients range from advertising multi-nationals to private fund managers and empowerment consortia, with a particular expertise in raising funding for a business through its life cycle.
Lauren holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with Honours in Financial Analysis and Portfolio Management and is also a CFA® charter holder. Lauren was previously employed by Absa Capital in their Investment Banking Division, focussed on assisting South African listed property funds in raising equity and debt funding, credit ratings advisory and managing interest rate risk. She worked in London for Barclays Capital as part of their front office global graduate programme.
Riaan van Eck
Property Investment Management
Riaan joined Leaf Capital in 2009.
Riaan holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree with Honours. Prior to working at Leaf Capital, Riaan held various senior positions at NBS Bank, BOE and Nedbank Ltd, including Financial Director of NBS Development Company and Divisional Director for Business Solutions at BOE. Riaan manages some of the key assets in the Leaf Property Portfolio.
Simon joined Leaf Capital in 2009.
Simon holds a Bachelor of Business Science degree with Honours in Information Systems from the University of Cape Town and is currently furthering his studies as a CFA® candidate and has passed his level II examination. Simon began his career in the Corporate Advisory division of a niche financial services company and is now an important member of Leaf Capital’s Corporate Finance team. Simon has significant experience in B-BBEE structuring, M&A, private equity and debt advisory. His sector experience includes gaming and leisure, QSR and food, aviation and technology.
Accountant & Secretarial
Mufeedah joined Leaf Capital’s Finance and Support division in 2014.
She holds a Bachelor of Accounting Sciences from the University of South Africa and completed 3 years of articles at PKF Inc.
Her has responsibilities in the areas of Accounting, Company Secretarial and Tax Administration. Mufeedah is the administrator for the Leaf Empowerment Trust where she ensures all beneficiary details are up to date and correct and ensures that the Trust has a valid BEE certificate.
Velesca joined Leaf Capital in 2012.
Velesca studied at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) and completed a National Diploma in Accounting. She is currently completing a Bachelor of Commerce degree (Accounting) part-time through the University of South Africa. Velesca has always worked in finance and provides valuable support to the finance team.
As part of the finance team Velesca does the accounting for various entities within the Leaf Capital group and is responsible for he audit preparations of all entities. She serves as the liaison with suppliers and external parties and does the invoicing for the Corporate Finance team as well as the Property Group.
Limise joined Leaf Capital in 2007.
She works together with the team to ensure the office runs smoothly on a daily basis.
Olwethu joined Leaf Capital in 2015 when she was appointed as the Company’s receptionist. Olwethu is responsible for providing professional oversight for the day-to-day reception area at Leaf Capital.
